We All Have a Job on Sunday Mornings

Not everyone can lead worship. Not everyone can preach. Not everyone can usher. But all can welcome the newcomer among us.

As we transition out of summer mode and prepare for fall, we’ll probably start seeing some more new faces on Sunday mornings. A few weeks ago I read an excellent article called “Make Sunday Mornings Uncomfortable: Three Rules of Engagement at Church.”

The author’s big idea is that we all have a job on Sunday mornings: welcoming newcomers. To that end, she proposes three “Rules of Engagement” to help us understand and apply ourselves to this very important yet very simple mission.

I highly recommend you take a few minutes to read it as you prepare for our service this week!

Not everyone can lead worship. Not everyone can preach. Not everyone can usher. But all can welcome the stranger among us.
